Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy for Toasted Cafe Montrose ("Toasted", "we"), the operator of toastedcafemontrose.com. We try to keep this short and human.

What we collect

We collect three kinds of information:

• Anonymous analytics via Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity (page views, device type, general location, scroll/click behavior). Both run only after you accept cookies.
• Form submissions when you fill out a contact, catering, event, job, or newsletter form. The fields you submit (name, email, phone, message) are sent to our team via Formspree.
• Order information when you order online via our Clover ordering system. Clover handles payment and delivery info; their privacy policy applies to that part of the flow.
• Browser-side cache: a copy of forms you submit is also temporarily stored in your browser's localStorage (under the key toasted-submissions, capped at 100 entries) so you can see your past submissions on this device. Clearing your browser data removes it. We do not read this from our server.

What we do with it

We use form submissions to respond to your message — that's it. We use analytics to understand which menu items people look at most and which pages help guests decide to visit. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent your personal information.
• We don't share your email with marketing companies.
• We don't track you across other websites.
• We don't use behavioral advertising or retargeting pixels.

Cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you decline, GA4 and Clarity are blocked from running. You can change your choice anytime by clearing your browser's cookies for this site, which will re-prompt the banner. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

For California residents (CCPA + CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA, in effect since 2023), you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect about you, including categories of sources and purposes.
• Access the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, going back 12 months from your request.
• Correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
• Delete your personal information.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share — see "What we don't do" above).
• Limit the use of Sensitive Personal Information. We do not collect Sensitive PI as defined by CPRA (e.g. precise geolocation, government IDs, biometrics, health, financial account credentials, religion, sexual orientation, racial origin). The "Limit Use" right does not currently apply because there is no Sensitive PI to limit.
• Not be discriminated against or charged differently for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@toastedcafemontrose.com with "CCPA / CPRA Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 45 days. You may also designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf — agent must provide signed written authorization.

Data retention

Form submissions are kept for as long as needed to handle your request, then archived. Analytics data is retained for 26 months (Google Analytics default). Newsletter list is kept until you unsubscribe.

Newsletter unsubscribe

Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it once and you're removed.

Third-party services we use

• Google Analytics 4 — web analytics
• Microsoft Clarity — session replay (anonymized)
• Vercel Analytics + Speed Insights — performance monitoring
• Formspree — form submission processing
• Sanity CMS — content management
• Clover — online ordering & payment
• Anthropic — AI for the on-site chat widget (no chat history stored)
• DoorDash, Uber Eats — delivery (when you order via them, their policies apply)

Children

Our site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Accessibility

We design and test toastedcafemontrose.com against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Concretely that means: keyboard-navigable nav, screen-reader semantics on every interactive element, sufficient color contrast on body text, alt text on photos, focus-visible states on links and buttons, support for the operating-system "reduced motion" preference, and skip-to-content links. We re-audit with Lighthouse and an automated WCAG scan after meaningful design changes.

Accessibility is a moving target — if anything on the site doesn't work for you with assistive technology, please email hello@toastedcafemontrose.com with "Accessibility" in the subject and we'll do our best to fix it. We aim to respond within 5 business days. The cafe itself is also wheelchair-accessible from the Honolulu Avenue sidewalk; for specific in-person accommodations, please call (818) 330-9350 ahead.

Employment applications

If you submit a job application via /join, the form collects your name, phone, email, the position you're applying for, your message, optionally a link to your resume, and an optional desired start date. We use this only to evaluate your application and contact you about it. We don't use automated decision-making (no AI screening) — every application is read by a person on the team.

Application data is retained for up to two years after submission so we can re-consider you for future openings, then deleted unless you ask earlier (email hello@toastedcafemontrose.com with "Delete my application" in the subject). California applicants have the same CCPA / CPRA rights described above with respect to this data.

AI chat assistant

The on-site chat widget uses an AI model from Anthropic to answer questions about our menu, hours, and location. We don't store conversation history on our servers — each message is processed and the reply is returned without being saved. Anthropic processes the message under their own policies; they do not train models on our API traffic.

The AI does its best with the information we've given it, but it can occasionally be wrong about prices, hours on specific dates, or details of a particular dish. For anything time-sensitive (current open status, today's holiday hours), check the homepage status pill or call us. For severe food allergies or dietary requirements, ask our team in person — don't rely on the AI.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post a banner. The current version is always at toastedcafemontrose.com/privacy.
